We were equally nervous and excited to hit the red carpet. Being the rookies that we are, we arrived before the cameras were even set up! Better early than late though, right? We worked with producers and photographers that have been covering the Grammys for more than 20 years. Needless to say, they were seasoned pros. Our first big interview came when I saw Thompson Square coming down the red carpet. They are an up and coming country duo, that is also a real-life married couple. They were very sweet. Next, we interviewed Steve Martin. Why was he at the Grammys? He has his own folk band, of course. We were SO tempted to ask him a question about Father of the Bride, but held back.
Next, it was time to chat up Paris Hilton and Cyndi Lauper (more on a funny bathroom run-in with Paris in our next post). Cyndi looks freaky in real life. She had at least an inch of white powder on her face.
Next, we talked to some more country superstars. Jason Aldean came prepared with a cowboy hat, but we were most excited to interview the Band Perry, who were absolutely fabulous. The brothers with the mullet haircuts winked at us probably ten times. Woohoo haha. They were thrilled to hear I saw them in concert last week when they came to SLC with Brad Paisley.
Whiz Khalifa and Amber Rose… surprisingly they were probably the nicest people we talked to on the red carpet. Amber has flawless skin up close.
Next… we didn’t get our own pic of Taylor Swift because we were too busy screaming at her.
She breezed by all of the reporters, but when she walked past us, she paused for a second, waved and told us she loved our dresses. Then we died. We don’t blame her for not stopping to chat, most of the performers weren’t allowed to do interviews to “conserve their voices”. She honestly has the body of a supermodel, very tall and slender. We were just kind of bummed she didn’t ask us if we wanted to hang out after the show 🙂
Other people we interviewed: Rebecca Black, Jaysean (loved him!), LLCool J, Weird Al (who brought his own mini me), last year’s Best New Artist winner Esperanza Spalding, Jane Seymour, Gayle King (so sad she didn’t bring her bestie O along), Sophia Grace and Rosie from Ellen, dozens of producers and musicians, plus Chris Harrison (host of the Bachelor/Bachelorette, Tenley and Kiptyn walked the unofficial red carpet, along with some other contestants.
We did not get pictures of the big stars i.e. Katy Perry, Rihanna, etc. because we were too busy trying to grab them for an interview. Surprisingly, Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga skipped the red carpet entirely.
